Keoladeo Ghana National Park, located in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, is a renowned wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formerly known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, it was renamed after the Keoladeo Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located within its boundaries.

The park can be explored on foot, by cycle-rickshaw, or on bicycles available for rent. Visiting The Park

The ideal time to visit Keoladeo Ghana National Park is between October and February, as this is when you can witness a plethora of migratory birds in the area.

Upon paying an admission fee of 400 rupees, valid from sunrise to sunset, you are granted one entrance per day to the park. If you wish to enhance your experience with a knowledgeable guide, their services are available for 100 rupees per hour. A narrow road traverses the park, but beyond checkpoint 2, motorized vehicles are not allowed. However, several tracks and pathways branch out from the road, winding their way through the shallow wetlands. As you venture further from the main gate, the scenery becomes more captivating, and you’ll encounter a greater diversity of wildlife.

Beyond checkpoint 2, only government-authorized cycle rickshaws, distinguished by their yellow license plates, are permitted. While the drivers do not charge an admission fee, they typically charge 70 rupees per hour. These cycle-rickshaws can only travel along the park’s larger tracks, offering a guided experience with some drivers who possess considerable knowledge.

Another excellent option to explore the park is by renting a bike or mountain bike at the park entrance, costing 25 or 40 rupees for a six-hour period, respectively. Cycling provides a peaceful and independent means of transportation, allowing you to avoid congestion and fully immerse yourself in the park’s tranquility. However, it is advisable for lone female travelers who wish to cycle to be accompanied by a guide who can cycle alongside them. There have been reports of harassment by young men within the park in recent years.

Upon entering the park, you will receive a small map along with your entrance ticket. Although the park is not extensive, it is designed to make it difficult to get lost. The map serves as a useful guide, ensuring you make the most of your visit and explore the park’s captivating offerings.
